Gert-Jan Nieuwenhuizen leads strategic initiatives in hydrogen development and international business at the Port of Amsterdam. As Executive Director New Business, he plays a pivotal role in shaping the port’s transition to a sustainable energy hub for Northwest Europe.
With over 25 years of experience in the maritime sector—including five years in Shanghai as Sales Director Asia—Gert-Jan brings a global perspective to port innovation, logistics, and international partnerships. He previously served as Managing Director of Port of Amsterdam International B.V., overseeing consultancy and development projects in ports worldwide.
He is also Managing Director of the H2A Association (Hydrogen to Amsterdam), a public-private initiative focused on building a scalable, multimodal green hydrogen supply chain through the Port of Amsterdam.
Gert-Jan holds a Master’s degree in Maritime Economics & Logistics from Erasmus University and advises the Port’s board on international strategy and innovation
