Can you briefly introduce the Sweden office and the region you cover?

The Netherlands Embassy in Stockholm represents the Dutch government in Sweden. The embassy plays a vital role in supporting international business and the activities of Dutch companies through economic diplomacy. The team works with trade promotion, innovation collaboration and investment promotion.  The main themes are Agrifood, Climate & Energy, Life Sciences & Health, Resilient Cities, Security and Technology of the Future.

Sweden, a country of nearly 11 million inhabitants, known for its vast forests, lakes, and innovative cities like Stockholm and Gothenburg, excels in sectors such as energy transition, cleantech, life sciences & health, ICT and advanced manufacturing. Across all sectors sustainability, innovation and digitalization dominate. Sweden has a relatively large and well-developed risk (venture) capital market. Sweden’s business culture values transparency, equality, and collaboration. Decision-making is consensus-driven, and punctuality and reliability are highly regarded. Swedes are innovative yet pragmatic, preferring clear, data-driven decisions and building long-term relationships based on trust. Sweden has a strong global reputation for being early adopters of new technology.

What makes your market particularly interesting for Dutch companies right now?

Sweden offers a stable, transparent, and innovation-driven business environment. Companies are open to international collaboration with a highly skilled workforce and strong sustainability focus. Sweden has a strategic location in Northern Europe and acts as a gateway to Scandinavia.  Swedes generally have a positive and open attitude towards Dutch entrepreneurs and view Dutch as professional, pragmatic, and internationally minded. Their direct communication style aligns well with the Swedish preference for clarity, and they are seen as collaborative, innovative, and reliable partners—ideal for building long-term business relationships.

Sweden is transitioning into a period of stronger growth and lower inflation in the short term, but long‑term growth will depend on structural reforms and how global economic conditions evolve. Long‑term fundamentals remain relatively strong, with stable public finances, high productivity. Long term growth will depend on structural reforms and how global conditions evolve. In the near term, the business climate in Sweden is cautiously optimistic, but still affected by broader economic uncertainties.

In the tech sector a rapid adoption of AI across industries, demand for secure systems and advanced network and cloud solutions will increase. Within Life Sciences & Health one can observe a growth in personalized medicine, remote care platforms, diagnostics, and bioinformatics. Development of new devices, digital care tools and preventive health technologies is expected.  A green transition focus is present in all sectors including implementing new circular economy business models and solutions.
